Synopsis

As the name suggests, it’s a piece which speaks about the number eight. A perfect number as regards its shape, given that it is made up of two equal circles that come together through an infinite line, which at the same time is the symbol of balance between opposing forces. It represents eternal cosmic movement, the eternal spiral at the basis of regeneration and the infinite. For that reason, in “Eight” one can visualise how, through the body, different possibilities of finding this 8 can be found. Making use of arms, legs and movement in space. Distance and proximity, play, struggle and harmony. These five elements play an important role within the piece. Through the search one discovers new forms which allow one to travel back to one’s childhood which will lead us to different states of mind.

Company

Born in Portugalete, Nerea started dancing in the traditional dance and music group Elai-Alai. She trained in Classical Dance with Ana Rosa Tercero and, in turn, in Contemporary Dance with Matxalen Bilbao.
Qualified in teaching Physical Education, she decided to delve more deeply into dance by attending the Professional Dance School in Burgos, where in her final year she received a grant from the Provincial Council of Bizkaia.
She has studied with teachers and choreographers from the Basque Country and all over Europe, working as a performer for companies in the Basque Country, Switzerland and other places.
In this new stage as a choreographer, she’s facing up to the challenge of a solitary project with the creation of Biraka. Previously, she collaborated and co-created pieces alongside other artists.
