Synopsis

Three distinctive solos emerged from Puzzling, a dance project premiered at the Guggenheim Bilbao Museum on December 2018.

In 2019 Puzzling continues by further developing some of the choreographic ideas generated during the initial process. Puzzling solos is the first outcome of this development. The common thematic axis are: interior-exterior interchange, fragmentation of time and the sound of the bodies. In these solos repetition is the primary tool for the development of the choreography.

There is a pause, there is an interruption and there is a pulse. There is difference and there is variation. There is a glimpse. There is search and a composed gesture. There is form. There are various sounds and a space full of possibilities. There is also the unformed and there is silence. There is the sound of the body. There is fragmentation and space production.

The duration of the pause is not exact. There is distance. There is speed. There is exchange and a sense of meaning. There is a search which connects and questions. There is a body aligned. There is a silence within the curve. There is insistence and attentive listening. And we consider the space.

Company

Blanca Arrieta (Vitoria, 1970) is a choreographer dancer and collaborator with numerous contemporary creations to her name. In 2000, after working as a freelance performer for several choreographers and companies throughout Spain, England and Ireland, began to express her own choreographic voice. Initially, this was through an intense focus on movement exclusively. Works produced during this period were: “Vértigo” (2000), “Zero” (2001) and “3600” (2003). She continued refining her craft through the creations: “Memoria” (2005), “Efecto Mariposa” (2006), “Rest” (co-produced by El Mercat de les Flors, Barcelona in 2007), “En la ciudad de los ángeles” (2008), “Muda” (2008), “Chalada” (2009) and “Frágil” (co-produced by Agora de la Danse and Montréal Danse in 2010). The process of creating these pieces has resulted in an established character and personality to the work. In recent years she has combined the creation of her own: “Argh!” (2014), "Sujetos" (2015), "Despacio" (2016), "Una serie de aproximaciones sucesivas" (2018) and "Puzzling" (2018), with various collaborations, to further develop her craft outside of her own production. Blanca is based in Bilbao and has produced works of very varying nature that have been seen throughout Spain and Europe, and as far afield as Canada and USA.

In 2018 she completed the artist in residency for Dantzaz Company (San Sebastian) program Atalak 2.0. Also that year, she participated in the performance "Any table any room"of Jonathan Burrows and Matteo Fargion at the Artium Museum, InTacto Festival (Vitoria). Another recent collaboration was with visual artist Mabi Revuelta on her project “Acromatica", on the game of Chess which will open Autumn 2020. Between 2016 and 2018 she has been part of the coordination team and artistic consultant for Dantzan Bilaka, a scheme run by the Basque Government for the development of Dance.

During 2019 Blanca has worked on the indoor adaptation of her latest project,"Puzzling", developing a series of solos focused on the fragmentation of time and the attentive listening. She has also participated in the fourth edition of "La Escucha Errante", organised by KLEM Electronic Music Laboratory and the UPV / EHU, where contemporary music artists meet with electronics, performance and thought.
