Synopsis

Survival is a multi-disciplinary art, with multiple facets, and therefore requires knowledge of techniques from various disciplines. These techniques will allow us to develop in life, to recognise and take advantage of its resources, as well as avoid its dangers. But let’s not kid ourselves, no-one is completely prepared for the violent mental and emotional shock that comes from finding yourself abandoned and alone. Survival techniques will help us with half, but the worst enemy lives inside us and to defeat it, we need to know how it works. If we are not prepared to face up to the worst, we will have little chance of survival.

Company

Alaitz Arenzana and Maria Ibarretxe are the creators of Sra Polaroiska en sillón de taller (Mrs. Polaroiska on the workshop chair). Alaitz Arenzana has a degree in Audio-visual Communication. From her very first works as an artist, she made it clear that her path would be linked to investigative and creative practices closer to the artistic world than the more industrial interests of the image. In addition to this she makes documentaries, adverts and television programmes. Maria Ibarretxe has a Diploma in Dramatic Art and a background in stage and performance creation, as well as working as a dancer and actress in various companies. Their collaboration has meant the mixing of these two worlds, finding a middle ground.
Both are part of the RUEMANIAK collective, which focuses on exploring dance and the performing arts.

The audio-visual work, Sra Polaroiska en sillón de taller, centres on the arts of action, stage creation and choreography. It is based on the search for other spaces and languages, where the body and its relationship with the space around it is always the main character. They avoid conventional narrative structures and concepts which are closed off from the audience. Their works, intentionally ambiguous, play with roles assigned to the body, destabilising what the audience sees, forcing them to position themselves in what they’re watching. The spectator is completely immersed in their world, in the space that they have created. A space which is nevertheless open, in which multiple interpretations exist, as many in fact, as eyes that have observed events on the screen.
