Synopsis

“Who’s afraid of the big bad wolf?” dramatizes two popular fairy tales: The Three Little Pigs and Little Red Riding Hood.
Yet it offers a lot more: a practical lesson in the history of ballet and dance told in chronological order as each scene is performed in a different style.

It’s the story of three beautiful dancers who live in the woods. The youngest is a dreamer, subtle, delicate and innocent, like romantic ballet. She lives a happy life as she believes one needs nothing more than a house of straw.
The second dancer is a little rebellious. She doesn’t like rules and dares to break them, which is what modern dance did to traditional metrics, rhythm and aesthetics. She works just enough so she can enjoy her passion for dance and for that reason she builds her house of wood.
The oldest sister is responsible, organized and careful. She is racial and traditional with a strong personality, so she dances traditional Spanish dance. She believes in traditional, solid and long lasting ways of doing things and so she builds her house of bricks.
The three dancers have a problem however, a wolf prowling around them. He’s a solitary being who can’t relate to others and doesn’t have any friends. When he sees them dancing happily he is envious; he would like to be like them but no one has ever taught him to dance and so he lives an angry life. When he attacks and destroys the houses of straw and wood the three sisters take refuge in the brick house. Safely protected they go to bed.

As in the great romantic ballets, when the characters sleep their dreams are shown to the audience. In this case, the story of Little Red Riding Hood, dancing in a contemporary, post-modern language. But the fierce wolf will not be beaten and what will happen when they wake up?
