Synopsis

In a profession carried out mostly by men like deep sea fishing, in the port it is women who work on repairing the nets, the most valuable tool in this line of work. However, despite undertaking this work for centuries, it was not until 2012 that the job of net mender was acknowledged officially in the Basque Country.
We therefore reclaim the situation in which they have found themselves since their existence and current danger of becoming extinct. The physicality of the work of net menders is the starting point: a precise and repetitive task in a static position during long working days. We also start from the symbolism of the nets and what these evoke, bringing into the imaginary the life of these women underneath that great holed blanket.
In Sareak the strength of these five women will take us to fishing ports through intimate and funny moments from a poetic and ironic gaze.

Company

ORGANIK was founded in 2002, but it has been continually involved in creative activity since 2007. Since 2011, it has been one of the subsidised companies in the Basque Country (Basque Government Department of Culture) for its trajectory and educational project in schools with adolescents.

Natalia Monge has directed ORGANIK since its beginnings and her creations are based on personal aspects which are then translated into the universe of the present in order to share the human side which so unnerves us in this western society.
Out of a language between text and dance she uses movement as a vehicle of expression and emotions in order to speak about whatever interests her. In her compositions, she seeks out different landscapes through their connection with the sonorous world and, in general, from an ironic outlook.
